Monochrome Weekly Theme: Museum Part 3/Are you listening closely?

In the novel Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell there is a wonderful passage in which the statues in York Minster Cathedral are brought to life by magic and begin to speak. Here are some of the statues and figures that can be seen in Edinburgh, each with their own story to tell to you...

In Cockburn Street, you will hear this unhappy jester complaining about the pain in his shoulders:

High up in the National Museum, these two glass angels whisper to each other, although they stop when they hear someone coming:

And the ones with the most interesting story of all - the Lewis Chessmen. They once told their story to a man called Irving Finkel, who wrote it all down in a book called The Lewis Chessmen: What Happened to Them. But because these little folk are are now prominently displayed, they're usually found deep in thought - but do they sometimes exchange glances..?

I've also changed my profile picture to a monochrome moon; I was in Greyfriar's Churchyard and spotted it on the loveliest headstone I've ever seen.

Wonderful shots. Sepia suits these subjects so well. The glass angels are enchanting and the Lewis chessmen are full of character.

Some good facial expressions here! I'm really sorry for the jester - one day he might decide to drop his load. How do you know the angels stop whispering when people pass? Somebody told me their voices have such high frequencies only animals with far better ears can hear them :)
