Weekend in Black and White: The small things of autumn

I realised this evening when I looked through my photo albums that I have none of my home in autumn; I have missed the Irish autumns for 4 years in a row now! There is a print on my wall of one of my favourite paintings (The Fox) by a Belfast artist; I imagine my native county probably looks a bit like that just now. Actually autumn doesn't seem to be coming to Edinburgh this year; most of the trees are still green and I've heard rumours that some elders are in flower again! I found just one unpublished "autumny" picture from NI:

This is my youngest cousin gathering pinecones for me; either the pinecone-gathering habit is genetic or he already knew that I liked pinecones. Possibly I was gathering them too. (I think it was maybe a day in early spring)
